And this is one wing of the smallish family columbarium where my grandmother's ashes now lie. Her original gravesite, like those of the surrounding family members, was razed for modern development. Each body was disinterred and cremated and their ashes now lie here, one in each niche.
It's really not a very large building-- maybe the size of a 1950s ranch-style house in the US. Each wing contains about 500 niches, but I don't recall how many wings there were-- at least 3, maybe as many as 5, So that would've been anywhere from 1500 to 2500 graves that were torn up and paved/built over.
